A RARE WILLIAM TELL SET
Oberammergau, 1830-1890
Carved and painted figures of William Tell with crossbow and his son with the apple on the head. Some paint loss. According to the famous 14th Century Swiss legend William Tell was ordered to shoot the apple from his son's head. Had he missed he would have used the 2nd arrow to shoot the governer Hermann Gessler. However the hero Tell did not miss... Litt: P.E. Rattelmüller, "Oberammergauer Spielzeug",
