Very detailed and brightly painted composition heads with strong caricatured appearance and composition hands, painted wooden legs and shoes. Original clothes. Most likely a very good size for a Guignol theatre.

AN IMPRESSIVE DANDY NODDER
German, mid 19th Century
Hand-painted papier-mâché gentleman dressed in 18th-century courtly style, standing on one leg on a wooden platform on which is written ‘Incroyable’. Light paint loss and damage, but in lovely condition considering its fragility. Depicted in "Frühes Spielzeug. Erzgebirge Thüringen 2", Leipold/Bickert/Kreher, Munich 2024, page 168.

An exceptionally detailed papier-mâché dog, an English Setter (?), in a sitting position. Hand painted with the original glass eyes. Head is removable to store candy in body. The red leather collar does not originally belong to the dog, but it holds the head a little more firmly in place ánd it looks rather good on him.
